Visit to a Castle

Sundays are my "me" time, and I like to take random drives to clear my head and get ready for the work week. It was a gorgeous day this past Sunday, so I headed towards the coast. I found myself in the Cape Ann area of Massachusetts and remembered Hammond Castle in Gloucester http://www.hammondcastle.org . I have always wanted to go explore it and soon found myself wandering around its enchanting grounds. This castle was built between the years of 1926 and 1929 by John Hays Hammond Jr. Second only to Thomas Alva Edison in number of patents, John Hammond was one of America's premier inventors.  His most important work was the development of remote control via radio waves, which earned him the title, "The Father of Remote Control." I could get lost in all the rooms here! It was so much fun, I felt like a little kid! The steep, winding stairs reminded me of the stairs at Blarney Castle. Here are some pics of my visit :)

These are the view from the back..what a view!

The Steep Stairs
Antique furniture and tiled floors..I love the textures

Drawbridge, Gargoyles, and Lion

Stone Arches and Medieval store front

I hope you enjoyed a glimpse into this castle! If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend a visit here!

  1. So pretty! I love the stone lion...I feel like I should have that in front of my door with possibly a draw bridge also. What a fun trip! I'd love to visit it one day for sure!

  2. I would love a couple of stone Lions in front of my house, but my house is not grand enough. People would think I was off my rocker :)
