Long weekend!

I look forward to these long weekends and always have a list of things to do in my head. Sadly, nothing much has been accomplished as of yet :(. I have 2 days left to get motivated! I did however make 2 great new totes! I made a great oilcloth tote that came out better than I expected! It has really sturdy handles and I just love how my new Pookie tags came out!

Oilcloth can be tricky to work with, but with a few tricks I think I have the hand of it now. When sewing on the shiny side, it helps to add masking tape to your presser foot. Otherwise, it sticks and doesn't glide along. Also, it helps to use a longer stitch length, that way you don't get so many close holes that can lead to an even bigger hole in oilcloth!

Today, I just finished a great quilted tote. It has more pockets and also a magnetic snap closure. I love the colors too!
I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend! The weather so far here has been great! I am hoping to get to my gardening and post some pics of what I have growing so far.

Sheep Shearing & Gardening

Is it just me or do the weekends fly by?? I got a lot done though. I walked up to my town common to check out the sheep shearing festival. Lots of food and craft vendors and of course the sheep! Check out some of the action below-

Along the way I had to stop and smell the lilacs. They are everywhere in my neighborhood. My favorite are the deeper purple-

I also planted more veggies today..I will have to take some pics of my garden soon to share. I am having a battle with some woodchucks, but hopefully I can deter them this year. Last year they ate a lot of my veggies!

I also created some baby owls to go along with the bigger guys..They came out really cute! Hope everyone has a great week! Long weekend coming up :)

Sticky Bun Heaven

Yet another dreary day here in Boston, but I was pleasantly surprised by a co-worker who brought me in a Sticky Bun!!! There is a famous bakery here called Flour..Bobby Flay lost in a sticky bun challenge with the owner. It was still warm and sooooo gooey! I think I will be on a sugar high all day now!

New Creation

I went to JoAnn Fabrics to get a needle, and I came out with a bit more than that. It always happens. I had been toying with the idea of making some type of stuffed animal. Since I love owls, I decided they would be my first try. I came across this really cute flannel fabric in the clearance section. I already had a bunch of felt at home, so I just needed to create a pattern. For my first try, I think my little owl is adorable! I do have to get better at sewing up the stuffing hole though :)

Where is the SUN??

It has been cold and cloudy here for days! The forecast doesn't look promising either! May is supposed to be sunny! I have to get the rest of my garden beds ready for planting, but it doesn't look like that will happen this weekend. On a brighter note, I did get my shipment of oilcloth, so I can get going on some new projects! My goal is to make some nice and roomy totes. I'll post anything that passes inspection! Here are some bright and cheery flowers from this Spring..maybe they will brighten my mood :)

Welcome!

Well here I am! I never thought I would have a blog :). We'll see how it goes and I am sure it will take me a while to get used to this. A little about myself...I am 35 (will be 36 in 3 days AGHH), live in a small town in Massachusetts, and love to travel. The name Pookie Creations came from a nickname my sister and I share..we also have matching tattoos on our wrists (OUCH!). I started an Etsy store www.etsy.com/shop/melsyboo14 less than a year ago. I make purses, pouches, totes, etc. I will soon also be selling fabrics, mainly oil cloth. When I was younger, I was afraid of the sewing machine and never thought I would ever use one! It all started when I tried making a Halloween door decoration, and the rest is history. This blog will be about all sorts of stuff, mainly showing off my latest sewing creations. I love to cook and garden as well, so I would love to share recipes and photos of all these hobbies. Here are a few pics from my shop! Enjoy and thanks for looking
